The BEE Certificate, also known as the Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment Certificate, is a document issued in South Africa to assess and verify a company's level of compliance with the country's Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE) Act. . The main objective of B-BBEE is the inclusion of the black race (broadly defined as African, Indian and Coloured) in the economy, within a broader goal of national empowerment, targeting historically disadvantaged people such as black people in general, women, young people, rural people. communities and people with disabilities.
- CIPC only provides B-BBEE certificates to exempt micro-enterprises; turnover less than R10 million (annual)
- The certificate is only valid for one year and cannot be renewed. Once expired, a new application must be submitted.
- Only directors/members of entities can apply for B-BBEE certificates, not intermediaries or third parties.
- Entities that have at least one foreign director/member do not qualify for CIPC B-BBEE certificates
